Do you ever feel like your face has lost its youthful plump? According to Wikipedia, 'the average 70kg person has roughly 15 grams of Hyaluronan in the body, of which a third is synthesized everyday'. So what is Hyaluronic Acid? It's a powerful humectant, creating and preserving moisture - 'a substance added to another substance to keep it moist'. (Dictionary.com) This keeps skin plump and hydrated.
Hyaluronic Acid is a major component of the skin, which helps repair tissue. It retains skin moisture and occurs naturally in the body. Cosmetologists use it in derma filler, as it contributes to the anti-aging benefits of the skin
As we age, we often need a little help, as the natural processes begin to slow down the production of these amazing sugar molecules. And how lucky are we to now have Hyaluronic Acid readily available to buy and use as part of our daily skin routine. It is incredibly light on the skin and I recommend using it directly after cleansing and toning. It's suitable for the eye area as well and then just add your favourite moisturizer.
If the science is all a bit complicated, this is the best way I can describe it.....imagine this... you get up in the morning, the face is looking pretty ordinary. You hop in to a hot (not scorching) steamy shower and when you come out, your skin (if you've never noticed, I recommend you take note next time), looks amazingly rejuvenated with a healthy glow. It may only last a few minutes but it feels amazing and even the lines appear visibly diminished. This is because of all the moisture created in the steamy shower, plumping the skin. Hyaluronic Acid works in a similar way. It adds moisture under the skins surface to plump it up.
So, happy plumping!
I feel it's still vital to touch on skin care again as my last post only scraped the surface with the very basics. The aim was to motivate but not overwhelm those who had never given much thought to a daily skin care routine. Hopefully, by now, you may be ready to add a few more products and steps.
So you are now in a cleansing, toning, moisturizing routine. Well done! If you feel that it's enough for you, then I would simply encourage you to continue. I stuck to this simple routine for many years before I was ready to explore and add more products which contained various ingredients actively working to maintain a youthful look because there comes a time when you will look into the mirror and instinctively know - you need more!
If you are ready to advance to next level in your routine, I would encourage you to add an exfoliant (or facial scrub) at least twice a week. It will help remove old dead skin cells, giving your face a beautiful polished glow. Please note, for those with acne, rosacea or ultra sensitive skin, to take extreme caution as it can create irritation. Always good to speak with a skin care specialist who can personally assess your situation first. From there you may feel more adventurous and even start applying a mask once a week. Again, have your skin type checked and always read the ingredients of a product. The last thing you want to have is a nasty reaction because a product (masks in particular) contained, for example, crustacean ingredients, which you may be allergic to. This is not to scare you but to help be aware and informed.
So step up to the next level and next time we can talk about the amazing benefits of Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C and more.
Let's start by breaking a few myths....things I often hear.
These are just a few of the objections I hear, as to why many women think that a skin care routine or that wearing makeup, is not for them. The above remarks can easily be justified by anyone who appears to have fairly nice looking skin, in their twenties and enjoying their no fuss, low maintenance appearance.
“Nature gives you the face you have at twenty. Life shapes the face you have at thirty. But at fifty you get the face you deserve.” COCO CHANEL
This famous quote couldn't be more true. Having started a good skin care routine at the age of 17 and fast forwarding to now, a few decades later, I would never have had such great skin had it not been for the education I received about skin care and, more impotantly, applying what I learned in a, twice a day, disciplined ritual.
So let's break down some of those myths.
So how do you start? You may already have some products at home which you may like to use or you may need to start from scratch. I've tried many brands over the years, from high end to pharmacy products. Some have worked ok, others I would'nt consider using again. It's a matter of experimenting to see what is best for you.
Welcome to my first blog. I'll have plenty to learn as time goes by in regards to blogging but I do hope that each time you drop in, you will gain some insight and knowledge into the world of beauty, makeup and anything that exhudes class and style.
Now before I go any further, I must add a disclaimer and advise you that anything I write about is purely my opinion. Any products or services I write a review about would have been paid for by me unless otherwise stated. Whilst I am happy to receive products/services by any company for the purpose of trialling and reviewing their products, (which I don't guarantee I will always write one), it will be an honest, uncompromising review. On saying that, no matter how highly I may rate something, it doesn't make me an expert on what's best for you. So my advice to you is to always do your own homework and check out all the manufaturers ingredients etc. Products aside, it will be methods, routines and a drive to developing self discipline to encourage and set you on the road to Self-Style Steps which will be the focal point on my blogs. You can do it!
Let me share, as my first blog post...my stunning dresser which is the centrepiece of my home studio. This little piece of furniture has centre stage with its humble beginings as an ordinary brown stained dresser, purchased for a bargain price of $40 from my local op shop! As soon as our eyes met I knew we were destined on a journey together. She came home with me that very day and I lovingly brought her to life by restoring her with a few coats of chalk paint. She has since been my makeup station for many lovely clients who often comment how beautiful she is. This girl is all class and brings an air of classic, chic, sophistication to the studio, which is all about a pampering experience for my clients and sanctuary for me.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you again soon as I share with you the importance of a good skin care routine.
